Roy Keane gives verdict on Man City new boy Erling Haaland with prediction for new season Manchester City have further bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Erling Haaland, who has received a rave review from Roy Keane ahead of his first Premier League season Video Loading Video Unavailable The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Play now Erling Haaland's first Man City interview! Roy Keane cannot fathom Erling Haaland scoring less than 20 goals in his debut season at Manchester City. The Norwegian is one of the hottest properties in world football and made the move to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund. In Germany he was scoring a goal per game on average having previously burst onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg. City have operated without a recognised No 9 for several years, but continue to create huge amounts of chances. As a result, Haaland is being tipped to top the goal charts and Keane believes he has the right attitude with more to come given his tender age. The Irishman said on ITV prior to the game: "Brilliant, brilliant player. Good age, 22, he hasn’t peaked yet, he’s working with a brilliant team, brilliant manager, he’s got all the attributes, you can’t imagine him not scoring 20 goals, you just can’t. "If he stays fit, he’s obviously got the right attitude what a signing, you used a word there… exciting, that’s exactly what this young kid is and I’m excited to watch him over the next few months." Haaland has already been vocal in his fondness for Pep Guardiola, who will be hugely demanding of his new signing as City target a hat-trick of league triumphs as well as their much craved Champions League title. Sergio Aguero previously excelled as a natural striker and Haaland is tipped to do likewise. Erling Haaland is Man City's marquee signing Have you say! Will Man City retain their Premier League crown? Let us know here. City's domination has made it hard to question their tactics, but at times the lack of a focal point has been cited as an issue, especially in Europe. The signing of Haaland more than addresses that issue which gives Guardiola's outfit another dimension. Ian Wright said: "You look at his record, we’ve been watching him in the Bundesliga and he’s scoring a goal a game almost. He looks so dynamic, 6ft5, pace, skill, he’s got everything. He’s come to one of the best clubs in the world who needed a striker of that calibre, we’re not saying City have been struggling to win the league but with this guy in it and this calibre of player coming to the Premier League it’s exactly what you need." Haaland didn't have the debut he was hoping for against Liverpool, who ran out 3-1 winners in the Community Shield with the Norwegian failing to get on the scoresheet. But Keane still thinks he's going to be a huge player for City this season. " I’d be encouraged from what I saw from Haaland today," he assessed after the final whistle. "Okay he missed two chances but he’s getting chances and it’s nice to see with the big hype around him it’ll humble him a little bit and it’s going to be hard work. "There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to score goals for fun, his movement, chances he had - he’ll be disappointed." The Norwegian, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund this summer in a blockbuster £51million deal, struggled to make his mark on Saturday and the late howler will have left an even worse taste in his mouth. Having a central striker is still something of a novelty for City after winning the Premier League last term without a senior frontman in their squad. And that showed on Saturday, when Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners at the King Power Stadium to win the Community Shield. Haaland, who arrived in Manchester under the weight of great expectations due to an exceptional goal-scoring record at club and international level, made a series of runs in behind that were ignored by his City team-mates in the first half. When found he showed strength and determination, going close on a couple of occasions, but his frustrating afternoon was capped off in second-half stoppage time. Phil Foden's low strike forced Adrian into a low save which was parried straight into Haaland's path. But from inside the six-yard box, he spooned it onto the top of the crossbar prompting a huge reaction from the crowd. JUST IN: What Xavi told Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as Tuchel holds transfer up Naturally, City fans were left with heads in hands after seeing their new star striker fail to get off the mark, while the miss only added to the party spirit in the Liverpool end as Jurgen Klopp's side struck the first blow in a battle between two English football heavyweights. Haaland managed a wry smile after the miss which, it goes without saying, is out of character for a player who bagged 29 goals in 30 games for BVB last campaign. The Sky Blues made a big statement by beating the likes of Real Madrid to his signature, and Liverpool responded by signing a frontman of their own in Darwin Nunez. DON'T MISS In stark contrast to his Man City counterpart, Nunez made a huge impact despite coming on as a second-half substitute. Firstly, he headed a ball onto the hand of Ruben Dias to win a penalty that was converted by Mohamed Salah, before stooping to head home in added time, opening his competitive account for the Reds after a big-money move from Benfica. Trent-Alexander Arnold was also on target for Klopp's side thanks to a curling effort that took a slight nick off Nathan Ake, while substitute Julian Alvarez scored City's only goal. After the final whistle, Guardiola weighed in on Haaland's performance and what City fans can expect this season. "It is good for him to see the reality in a new country and a new league but he was there," he said. "He didn't score. He has incredible quality and he will do it. He had chances, two or three in the first half and one at the end. He fought a lot and made the movements." City have just over a week until they head to the London Stadium to face West Ham in the Premier League, while Liverpool kick off their campaign the day prior against Fulham. Last season Klopp and Guardiola's sides were separated by just one point after 38 matches, with the Cityzens coming out on top. Kevin De Bruyne can't hide frustration at Erling Haaland as early Man City issue evident Man City handed star signing Erling Haaland his first appearance of the season vs Liverpool but there appeared to be a little bit of tension between the Norwegian and new teammate Kevin de Bruyne Video Loading Video Unavailable The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Play now Man City V Liverpool: Pictures Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne failed to mask his frustration with Erling Haaland with the two experiencing a few early teething problems. The pair were both selected to start for the reigning Premier League champions on Saturday during their Community Shield showdown with Liverpool. Whilst it is a tantalising prospect to see the duo link up at the Etihad Stadium throughout the campaign, it appears that they are not quite yet on the same wavelength. As reported by ESPN, the Belgian playmaker displayed his frustrations with his new teammate after he expected him to make a run in-behind the Reds’ defence but instead the former Borussia Dortmund star stayed stationary. De Bruyne was furious with the decision as he threw his arms up in the air in exasperation. The pair are then reported to have had a private conversation on the pitch as they attempted to come to more of an understanding before the midfielder was withdrawn from the action midway through the second period. Supporters will certainly hope that the pair can strike up more of a relationship throughout the campaign. Haaland signed for Man City from Dortmund in a £51m deal and was anticipated to add to his stunning goalscoring record that he put together in Germany. De Bruyne has already been highly complimentary of the striker’s abilities having suggested that he could assist the team and potentially improve his own creative numbers. Share your predictions in the comments below Speaking to HLN in Belgium shortly after Haaland’s arrival was confirmed, he said: "Erling Haaland is a top striker. His move should help us to grow as a team. Everybody expects a lot. “They've always been looking for a No.9, but I think it'll be good to have that striker that maybe scores 20-25 goals a season." He continued: "Maybe (his arrival might help me too). There have been years that I have had more assists (than this season). "But my chance creation and other things have remained consistent. Numbers are a part of football but they never tell you the full story." Whilst Haaland’s movement left De Bruyne slightly frustrated, the Norwegian did manage to find the net during pre-season with a strike against German giants Bayern Munich. In the meantime, the Belgian playmaker looks to also be going into the new campaign in good form with two goals against Mexican outfit Club America. The duo will hope to make a positive start to the new Premier League campaign with Man City set to open the defence of their title against West Ham United next Sunday. Read More Read More
